While the entire nation of India was focused on the IND vs BAN Champions Trophy match in Dubai, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had other concerns. According to a report from ESPNCricinfo, the PCB lodged a complaint with the ICC regarding the absence of “Pakistan” from the live broadcast graphics during the India-Bangladesh match.
In contrast, the name “Pakistan” was prominently displayed during the tournament’s opening match between Pakistan and New Zealand. However, it was notably missing during the India-Bangladesh encounter, as well as in the subsequent match between Afghanistan and South Africa. The PCB has sought clarification from the ICC and demanded assurances that this issue will not recur. The ICC attributed the omission to a technical error, but the PCB expressed dissatisfaction with this explanation, pointing out that such graphics are typically prepared well in advance.
This incident adds to ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan cricket boards, particularly following India’s decision to play all their Champions Trophy matches in Dubai due to security concerns. As both teams prepare for their highly anticipated clash on February 23, these issues underscore the complexities surrounding cricketing relations between the two nations.
