Gillespie Played no role Babar Azam getting dropped from Pakistan’s Test team

Jason Gillespie has stepped down as head coach of Pakistan’s Test cricket team after less than eight months, citing poor communication with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as a key reason. Appointed in April, Gillespie’s tenure included leading Pakistan to their first home Test series win in over three years. However, tensions arose following the dismissal of high-performance coach Tim Nielsen, which Gillespie learned about only after the fact. He expressed feeling “completely and utterly blindsided” by the PCB’s decisions and questioned whether they truly wanted him in the role.

Gillespie clarified that he had no involvement in the controversial decision to drop former captain Babar Azam from the Test side, stating that he was removed from the selection process. He praised Babar as an elite player who works hard on his game. Despite some successes, including a 2-1 series win against England, Gillespie’s frustrations with the PCB’s lack of clarity ultimately led to his resignation ahead of an upcoming Test series against South Africa. AaqibJaved has been appointed interim head coach following Gillespie’s departure.
