In absence of Bumrah & Siraj in Champions Trophy, Perfect time for Mohammed Shami to step up

After a 14-month absence due to an ankle injury and subsequent knee issues, Mohammed Shami has returned to the Indian cricket team for the T20I series against England. He last played for India in the 2023 ODI World Cup final.Shami underwent surgery and a lengthy rehabilitation process, playing domestic cricket to regain fitness.

The 34-year-old fast bowler’s return is a boost to India’s pace attack. Shami, who has played 23 T20Is, 64 Tests, and 101 ODIs in his career, is expected to be a key player in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy.

However, Shami’s return hasn’t been smooth, and he went wicketless in his first game back. With JaspritBumrah ruled outand Mohammed Siraj as a non-traveling reserve, Shami will need to lead the pace attack, guiding younger bowlers like HarshitRana and Arshdeep Singh. Former India captain Kapil Dev supports Shami to regain his old form.
