In BBL Melbourne Renegades beat Brisbane Heat by Seven Runs

Hayley Matthews starred in the Melbourne Renegades’ historic victory over Brisbane Heat, clinching their first WBBL title by seven runs at the MCG. Matthews scored 69 runs off 61 balls, the highest in a WBBL final, and took 2 wickets for 24 runs. Despite a rocky start, with the Renegades at 31 for 3, Matthews steadied the innings, hitting eight boundaries and guiding her team to a total of 141.

Brisbane’s chase faltered early, and although Jess Jonassen fought valiantly with an unbeaten 44, they fell short of the revised target of 98 runs due to rain. Charli Knott was notable for the Heat, taking 3 wickets for 28 runs. This win capped a remarkable turnaround for the Renegades, who finished last in the previous season.
