Australia has made significant changes to its squad for the final two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, dropping opener Nathan McSweeney after a disappointing run of form. McSweeney, who managed only 72 runs across six innings, including scores of 10, 0, and 4 in his last three Tests, will be replaced by 19-year-old Sam Konstas. Konstas has been in excellent form, recently scoring a century in a pink-ball practice match against India and impressing in domestic competitions.
The changes come ahead of the Boxing Day Test scheduled for December 26 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Alongside Konstas, Australia has recalled express pacer Jhye Richardson for the first time in three years and added Sean Abbott and allrounder Beau Webster to the squad. Josh Hazlewood will miss the remainder of the series due to injury.
Chair of Selectors George Bailey acknowledged the struggles of the top-order batters and emphasized the need for a fresh approach. He expressed confidence in McSweeney’s potential but noted that it was a difficult decision to leave him out.
