In ICC 2024 T20 WC West Indies beat Papua New Guinea by 5 wickets
Choosing to bowl first after winning the toss, host West Indies restricted Papua New Guinea to 133 runs at the loss of eight wickets in their opening 2024 ICC T20 World Cup match.
The batsman of Papua New Guinea, Sese Bau, departed after a fighting half-century in 43 balls, with wickets tumbling at the other end. Star all-rounder Andre Russell picked up two wickets, taking his T20I wicket tally above 50.
Earlier, Roston Chase took a stunner while fielding at point to send Papua New Guinea captain Assad Vala back to the dugout. Left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein opened the bowling on a spin-friendly track and restricted the scoring rate. Regarded by many as dark horses for the tournament, the West Indies are aiming for a record third T20 World Cup title.
