In massive ODI record list, Kane Williamson creates history, surpasses Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar

Kane Williamson recently achieved a significant milestone in his ODI career, becoming the second-fastest player to reach 7000 runs. This accomplishment occurred during a match against South Africa in the tri-series that also features Pakistan. Williamson scored an unbeaten 133 off 113 balls, leading New Zealand to a six-wicket victory and securing their place in the tri-series final. This was also his first ODI ton after five and a half years.

Williamson reached the 7000-run mark in his 159th innings, surpassing ViratKohli (161 innings) and Sachin Tendulkar (189 innings). HashimAmla remains the fastest to this milestone, achieving it in just 150 innings. Before the match against South Africa, Williamson needed 132 runs to reach 7000, having already scored 6868 runs in 158 innings.

In addition to this achievement, Williamson holds several other records. He was the fastest New Zealander to reach 6000 ODI runs. By November 2024, Williamson became the first New Zealand batter to surpass 9000 Test runs. He has also led New Zealand to victories and was named player of the tournament in the 2019 World Cup. Williamson also holds the record for the third-most runs in a season as captain in the IPL.
