Pakistan made history on December 22, 2024, by achieving a remarkable 3-0 whitewash against South Africa in an ODI series on their home tur”, marking the first time South Africa has lost all matches in a home ODI series. The final match at Wanderers Stadium saw Pakistan win by 36 runs using the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method after rain reduced the game to 47 overs per side.
Opener Saim Ayub led the charge with a stunning 101 runs off 94 balls, earning him both the Player of the Match and Player of the Series titles. His innings included two sixes and 13 fours, contributing significantly to Pakistan’s total of 308-9. Babar Azam and captain Mohammad Rizwan also made valuable contributions with fifties, while Salman Agha added a quickfire 48 runs.
In response, South Africa struggled, with Heinrich Klaasen top-scoring at 81 runs. Despite a spirited effort, they were bowled out for 271 in just 42 overs. Pakistan’s Sufiyan Muqeem excelled with the ball, taking four wickets for 52 runs.
This victory is Pakistan’s fifth consecutive bilateral ODI series win and sets a positive tone ahead of the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, which they will host alongside the UAE for matches involving India.
