In Playing XI vs NZ In 1st Test Sarfaraz Khan To Replace Injured India Star

India's Shubman Gill may miss the first Test against New Zealand due to neck and shoulder pain. According to a report from *India Today*, Gill informed the team management about his discomfort on Monday, and a final decision on his selection will be made on the morning of the match, scheduled for October 16. If he is unavailable, Sarfaraz Khan or DhruvJurel could potentially replace him in the playing XI.

Gill has recently solidified his position at No. 3 in India’s Test lineup, particularly after scoring a century against Bangladesh in the last series. His consistent performance has made him a vital asset, boasting the highest batting average for India in second innings since 2020.

Sarfaraz Khan, who scored a double century in the Duleep Trophy for Mumbai, is the frontrunner to replace Gill. Although Sarfaraz began his Test career promisingly against England, he lost his spot when KL Rahul returned from injury. If Sarfaraz does enter the lineup, it could lead to a batting order reshuffle, with India considering Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, or Rishabh Pant for the No. 3 position.
