In the 2nd Test between RSA and PAK, Ryan Rickelton takes center stage

Ryan Rickelton stole the spotlight with a monumental innings of 259 runs off 343 balls in the second Test against Pakistan at Newlands, Cape Town. His remarkable performance marked a significant milestone as he became the first South African opener to score over 250 runs at home and the first Proteas player to achieve a double century in the World Test Championship.

Rickelton’s innings was characterized by his aggressive batting, featuring 29 boundaries and three sixes. He built a solid partnership with captain Temba Bavuma, contributing to a massive total of 566 for 7 at tea on Day 2. This innings is particularly noteworthy as it is the highest score by a South African in nine years, following HashimAmla’s 311 against England in 2012.

The left-handed batsman resumed play on Day 2 after finishing Day 1 on 176, showcasing resilience and skill as he navigated through Pakistan’s bowling attack. His dismissal came when he miscued a slog, but not before solidifying his place among South Africa’s greats. With this performance, Rickelton has significantly boosted his Test average and reputation, further establishing himself as a key player for the Proteas.
