In the finals of the Ranji Trophy, Mumbai clinches a record-extending 42nd title as they defeat Vidarbha by 169 runs

On Thursday, March 14, in the finals of the Ranji Trophy 2024, Mumbai won the title after defeating Vidarbha by 169 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. It also happened to be their 42nd title victory for Mumbai, which showed why they are deemed a brute force in Indian domestic cricket.
After they last got their hands on the title back in the 2015-16 edition, Mumbai also ended their 8-year-long wait to win the championship. Earlier, Vidarbha won both their Ranji finals, but this time, they bowed down in front of AjinkyaRahane-led men.
After being asked to chase down a huge target of 538 runs, Vidarbha went into Stumps on Day 4 with their score at 248 for 5 in 92 overs. AkshayWadkar, batting at 56, and Harsh Dubey had a huge task on their hands on the last and final day of the match.
In the first session on Day 5, they did not give their wickets away and also brought down the target below 100. In the meantime, Wadkar got to his century off 195 balls to put Mumbai under a bit of pressure.
