The opener of team India, Prithvi Shaw, who was out due to an injury since last August, made his return to competitive cricket recently in the Ranji Trophy 2024 match against Bengal. The 24-year-old batsman from Mumbai made 35 runs in the only innings he batted in, as Mumbai cruised to a solid victory.
Having said that, he had little impact on the match. But in the encounter against a relatively weak Chhattisgarh, the hard-hitting Prithvi made an instant impact. After just 16 overs of play one day of the encounter, he was batting on 66 from 59 balls, hitting nine fours and two sixes.
In fact, he reached fifty in just 43 deliveries. On the other hand, his opening partner, BhupenLalwani, could only muster 20 from 38 balls. Mumbai were 88/0 after the end of 16 overs.
Prithvi Shaw had suffered an ankle injury while playing for Northamptonshire in the Royal London Cup. For the same reason, he had to undergo surgery and rehab at the NCA. Meanwhile, he has played 5 Tests, 6 ODIs, and a T20I for India since making his debut back in 2018.
