In this Test record Joe Root surpasses Sachin Tendulkar

When Sachin Tendulkar retired from Test cricket, few believed anyone could surpass his remarkable tally of 15,921 runs. However, Joe Root is now in a position to challenge that record. While Root still trails by over 3,000 runs, he recently achieved a significant milestone by surpassing Tendulkar in the list of all-time run-scorers in fourth innings of Tests.

Root’s exceptional form has made him one of the best Test batters globally. Since January 1, 2020, he has scored 18 centuries in just 61 matches, averaging a century every 3.38 games. In the opening Test against New Zealand, Root remained unbeaten at 23, contributing to England’s victory and bringing his fourth-innings total to 1,630 runs, edging past Tendulkar’s 1,625 runs.

Despite not scoring a century in his last four Tests, Root’s consistency and ability to perform under pressure highlight his status as a modern great. With his current trajectory and commitment to the game, he may well challenge Tendulkar’s overall Test run record in the coming years.
