The Indian cricket team started off their 2024 T20 World Cup campaign with a comfortable victory of eight wickets against Ireland.
Apart from the unlucky early dismissal of the premium batsman of team India, Virat Kohli, India always seemed in cruise control of this below-par run chase. The match then saw another dramatic twist when the captain of the team, Rohit Sharma, had to leave the field and retire due to an apparent shoulder injury.
The bowlers of the Ireland cricket team had very little to fight for in this match, with a target of only 97 runs becoming increasingly difficult against a team like India.
Pandya (3/27) led the effort of India with the ball, and he received able support from Arshdeep Singh (2/35) and Jasprit Bumrah (2/6) after Rohit elected to bowl first in their tournament opener. Jasprit Bumrah gets the Man of the Match award for his bowling brilliance in his 2/6 spell.

Ireland 96/10 in 16 overs (Gareth Delany 26; Hardik Pandya 3/27).
India 97/2 in 12.2 overs (Rohit Sharma 52; Benjamin White 1/6)
