India Player Arshdeep Singh overtakes Yuzvendra Chahal as India’s highest T20I wicket-taker
Arshdeep Singh made history on January 22, 2025, by becoming India’s highest wicket-taker in T20 internationals, surpassing spinner YuzvendraChahal. This milestone was achieved during the first T20I against England at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Arshdeep entered the match with 95 wickets and quickly equaled Chahal’s record by dismissing Phil Salt and then took the wicket of Ben Duckett, bringing his tally to 97 in just 61 matches.
The left-arm pacer has established himself as a key player in the Indian T20I lineup, known for his exceptional skills in the powerplay and death overs. His achievement highlights his rapid rise in international cricket since his debut in 2022.
India’s top five T20I wicket-takers now include Arshdeep Singh (97), YuzvendraChahal (96), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (90), JaspritBumrah (89), and Hardik Pandya (89). Despite this personal success, Arshdeep remains significantly behind New Zealand’s Tim Southee, who holds the record for the most T20I wickets globally with 164.
