The international player of the Indian Cricket Team, Dinesh Karthik, announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Saturday. Karthik announced his retirement through a social media post, saying, “Having given it plenty of thought for some time now, I have decided to move on from playing competitive cricket. Eye officially announces my retirement and puts my playing days behind me as I square up for the new challenges that lie ahead.”
Karthik last played during the Indian Premier League season 2024 in May for Royal Challengers Bengaluru; he even received a god of honor from his teammates in the side final game, which made the retirement announcement imminent.
Dinesh Karthik, who is a wicketkeeper and batsman, made 257 appearances in the Indian Premier League, where he scored 4842 runs at an average of 26.32. He has also played for Kolkata Night Riders along with Mumbai Indians, Delhi Daredevils, and Kings XI Punjab, apart from RCB.
Last time Dinesh Karthik represented team India during the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia against Zimbabwe, Dinesh made his national debut at the age of 19 in a one-day international match against England at Lords.
