IPL teams are likely to retain 5-6 players; RTM rule is on the agenda for the July 31 owners’ meeting

It is now confirmed that the much-awaited meeting between the BCCI and the IPL franchise owners will take place on July 31. While the exact venue has not been confirmed, the meeting is expected to take place at the Cricket Centre, the BCCI headquarters, located within the Wankhede Stadium complex in Mumbai.
On Thursday, July 25, the CEO of IPL, Hemang Amin, sent text messages to the franchise owners, telling them that a formal invite with the venue and timing would follow.
As per the report, this long-awaited meeting would occur at the end of the month. However, the exact number of player retentions per team is still speculative. It is likely that the number will be low. The inputs from team owners may differ, with suggestions varying between one and eight retentions. However, the BCCI is expected to settle on an average number, possibly five or six.
At the meeting, the Right to Match option is a contentious issue that may be debated, although it’s likely that the BCCI has already made a decision on the matter. There were no RTMs in the 2021 mega-auction. The argument in favour of the RTM option is that it allows players to be sold at their market value.
