Cricket Australia has named India’s premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah as the captain of the Men’s Test Team of the Year for 2024. Alongside him, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is the other Indian representative in a diverse XI featuring players from six countries. The team also includes wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey and pacer Josh Hazlewood from Australia, while England is represented by Joe Root, Ben Duckett, and Harry Brook. New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra and Matt Henry, South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj, and Sri Lanka’s Kamindu Mendis round out the squad.
Jaiswal had a standout year, scoring back-to-back double centuries in February and a crucial 161 in Perth, setting records for most runs by an Indian opener in a calendar year and hitting 36 sixes globally. Duckett impressed with aggressive scores, including 153 in Rajkot and 114 in Multan. Root continued his prolific form with six centuries, including an unbeaten 262 against Pakistan.Ravindra played a key role in New Zealand’s historic series win in India, while Brook shone with a stunning 317 in Multan. Mendis had a breakout year, scoring over 1,000 runs and matching Bradman’s record for reaching that milestone quickly. Bumrah’s exceptional performance included 71 wickets at an average of 14.92, solidifying his status as a leading bowler in world cricket.
