On Friday, in a World Cup 2023 match, the New Zealand cricket team defeated Bangladesh by eight wickets. Earlier, the Bangladesh cricket team scored 245 runs at a loss of nine wickets while playing against New Zealand in their ICC World Cup match in Chennai. New Zealand won the toss and decided to bowl first in their third match of the ongoing Mega Event. Bangladesh found themselves in trouble early on, as Trent Boult and Lockie Ferguson had them reeling at 56 for four in the 13th over after Litton Das was dismissed in the very first ball of the match. Captain Shakib Al Hasan scored 40 off 51 balls, then forged a partnership of 96 runs for the fifth wicket, with his seasoned teammate Mushfiqur Rahim scoring 66 off 75 as Bangladesh moved to 156 in the 30th over when Ferguson sent back the former to pick up his third wicket. Matt Henry then took the wicket of Mushfiqur to close in on Bangladesh's tail. Mahmudullah made an invaluable unbeaten score of 41 runs towards the end.
New Zealand has won three out of three matches, and they top the table with six points and a net run rate of 1.6 as the tournament moves onto the third “round”. Bangladesh hovers just below England with just one win; they’re going to have to topple some giants to get into the quarterfinals.
