KKR captain could miss initial IPL 2024 matches as Shreyas Iyer’s worst nightmare comes true

The captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders, Shreyas Iyer, has suffered a setback with his recurring back injury flaring up again during the ongoing Ranji Trophy final. This casts serious doubt on his participation in the initial stages of the Indian Premier League 2024, which begins in just eight days.
Shreyas Iyer, who underwent back surgery last year, was forced to seek treatment from the physio twice during his 95-run knock for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy final’s second innings. He then missed the entirety of Day Four due to the discomfort. Reports indicate he underwent a back scan at a hospital.
This development is a major concern for the KKR. With the IPL commencing on March 22nd and their first match scheduled for March 23rd against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Shreyas Iyer’s availability for the initial matches is at risk.
An inside source revealed, “It’s not looking good. It’s the same back injury that has aggravated. It’s unlikely that he will take the field on Day 5 of the Ranji Trophy final. He is in danger of missing the initial matches of the IPL.”
