LA28 Olympics Cricket Matches set to be held in New York

Los Angeles 2028 Olympic organizers are considering hosting cricket matches on the East Coast, likely in New York, to cater to a global audience, particularly Indian fans. This strategic decision is primarily driven by the time zone difference, aiming to maximize viewership in India. Currently, New York is nine hours and 30 minutes behind Indian Standard Time, while Los Angeles lags by 12 hours and 30 minutes.

Cricket is set to return to the Olympics after a 128-year absence, with matches played in the T20 format. The LA28 committee, led by chair Casey Wasserman, recognizes the significance of the Indian market for cricket’s inclusion, as it could dramatically increase media revenue for the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Hosting matches in New York would facilitate better viewing times for Indian audiences, enhancing engagement. New York and Florida have previously hosted T20 World Cup matches, indicating a growing interest in cricket in the U.S.
