Former Indian spinner Laxman Sivaramakrishnan launched a scathing attack on Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Saturday, September 30. The 57-year-old posted many controversial tweets from his X account and made disparaging remarks about Ashwin, saying that pitches in India are doctored to help him perform. Ravichandran Ashwin was included in the 2023 World Cup squad of India in the last minute because of an injury to star or rounder Axar Patel.
Sivaramakrishnan first posted an image from a clip posted by Ashwin a few days ago on social media and pointed out a technical flaw. The former Indian leg spinner called on Ashwin to make a change in order to be more effective with the ball. Later on, he lost his school with a fan who replied to his post, criticizing the lack of spinners in the commentatory panel for the World Cup. Sivaramakrishnan went on a multiple to eat rent against session as replies started coming in to his remarks.
In one of his tweets, Sivaramakrishnan said, "Indian batsmen are struggling against spin because the pitches in India are doctored for Ashwin in test matches. Look at his record in SENA countries." In another tweet, he said, "Go straight from the airport to the ground and tell the ground staff what areas to tamper with. I have seen with my own eyes several times."
Sivaramakrishnan played a total of nine test matches and 16 ODIs for the Indian cricket team from 1983 to 1987, and the highlight of his career was being the star of India's 1985 World Championship cricket victory in Australia, where he finished as the top wicket taker of the tournament.
