Marcus Stoinis Appointed as New Captain of Melbourne Stars replaces Glenn Maxwell

Australia all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has been appointed as the new captain of the Melbourne Stars ahead of the Big Bash League (BBL) Season 14, replacing Glenn Maxwell, who stepped down after a disappointing season. The Stars finished sixth In the previous campaign and missed out on the finals.

Stoinis, who has been with the Stars since BBL Season 3, previously captained the team during a match last season when Maxwell was injured. He is set to become only the second player to reach 100 appearances for the franchise this season. Expressing his gratitude for the role, Stoinis said, “I had a little bit of a taste of captaining the side in Maxi’s absence last year and loved the opportunity, so to be given the role full-time is a great honour.”

Stars General Manager Blair Crouch acknowledged Maxwell’s contributions over five seasons and expressed confidence in Stoinis’s leadership abilities. The Melbourne Stars will kick off their BBL 14 campaign against the Perth Scorchers on December 15. With Stoinis at the helm, fans are hopeful for a turnaround in fortunes for the franchise this season.
