The captain of team Pakistan, Babar Azam, looked dejected after they lost a last-ball thriller to Sri Lanka in the virtual semi-final in Colombo on Thursday, following which reports of a rift in the Pakistan dressing room emerged.
Former wicketkeeper-batsman Moin Khan, in a television interview, highlighted that Babar Azam lacked support on the field in their Super 4s match against Sri Lanka and that it seemed as if the team lacked unity after the 228-run defeat to India on Monday in Colombo.
Questions have been asked about the captaincy of Babar Azam as they allowed India to post 356 on the board with Virat Kohli and KL Rahul scoring freely in the middle overs. The scrutiny only intensified after Pakistan failed to defend the target of 252 runs in a rain-curtailed Super 4s match against Sri Lanka.
In an interaction with the media, Hafeez said, "If you don't give credit only to the captain for reaching the final, then don't blame the defeat only on the captain. Turning blame on a single player will not solve the problem."
