Mohammed Shami is all set for a return to the India Cricket Team after 361 days away from the field. In his comeback match for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy, Shami showed his class by taking an impressive four wickets, derailing Madhya Pradesh’s strong start. This performance puts him in a good position ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, though he may miss the first couple of Test matches. If all goes well, Shami could be available for the third Test against Australia.
Shami last played for India in the ODI World Cup 2023 final in Ahmedabad. Following that, he underwent ankle surgery, which sidelined him for almost a year, causing him to miss several key tournaments. Initially, he was slated to return in Bengal’s fourth Ranji Trophy match against Karnataka but didn’t play due to concerns over a minor niggle during his recovery at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
Recently, Shami was seen bowling in the nets with heavy knee strapping, sparking speculation about his fitness. However, his recovery seems on track, and if he continues to progress well, he is expected to join the India squad for the later stages of the Australia series. His four-fer on day two against Madhya Pradesh highlights his readiness for a strong return.
