NCA declares Shreyas Iyer fit, but Ranji Trophy absence raises questions

The National Cricket Academy has clarified the status of Shreyas Iyer and said that he had ‘no fresh injuries’. This comes a day after the batter opted out of the Ranji Trophy quarterfinals, citing back issues. In an email to the selectors, Nitin Patel, the head of sports science and medicine at the NCA, informs them that Iyer was fit and that no injuries were reported after his departure from Team India.
Patel wrote in his email to the selectors, “Shreyas Iyer was fit and available for selection as per the handover report of the Indian team after the 2nd Test match against England. There are currently no fresh injuries reported as well after his departure from Team India.”
The clarification might spell trouble for Iyer, as the BCCI has solidified its stance on domestic cricket. In a letter to all the players, BCCI secretary Jay Shah warned of the severe implications of skipping domestic games without an injury or other commitments.
Iyer made scores of 35, 13, 27, and 29 in the first two Tests before he was dropped from the squad for the remainder of the series.
