Netherlands batsman SybrandEngelbrecht retires after World Cup exit

Following the Netherlands' exit from the T20 World Cup, SybrandEngelbrecht announced his retirement from international cricket. He has represented the Netherlands in 24 games—12 T20Is and 12 ODIs—since his debut in 2023. Previously, he had played under-19 cricket for South Africa.
The batter played in each of the Netherlands’ four matches at the T20 World Cup, against South Africa, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal.
He guided his team to a victory against Nepal in the opener, scoring 14 runs in a tight chase, but the European nation were eliminated, losing each of the other three matches.
In their final game of the tournament, which could have seen them progress if they’d won and Bangladesh had lost to Nepal, Engelbrecht pulled off a stunning stop on the boundary to save a six.
Now at the age of 35, Engelbrecht has taken retirement from international cricket, with 280 T20I runs at an average just over 30, and 385 ODI runs at 35.
