New Zealand beat India by 8 wickets in 1st Test Match

New Zealand achieved a historic victory over India, winning the first Test match by eight wickets at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. This marks New Zealand’s first Test win in India since 1988, ending a 36-year drought. After bowling India out for a mere 46 runs in their first innings, the Kiwis posted a commanding 402 in response.

In the second innings, India managed to score 462, led by Sarfaraz Khan’s impressive 150 and Rishabh Pant’s near-century of 99. Chasing a target of 107 runs on the final day, New Zealand overcame early challenges from JaspritBumrah to reach their target in just 27.4 overs. Will Young remained unbeaten on 48, while RachinRavindra contributed 39 not out.

This victory not only gives New Zealand a 1-0 lead in the three-match series but also highlights their growing prowess in Test cricket. The win is particularly significant as it adds to New Zealand’s limited success on Indian soil, with only three Test victories in history. The teams will now prepare for the second Test scheduled to take place in Pune on October 24.
