The captain of the New Zealand cricket team, Kane Williamson, said he and his team are excited about the prospect of facing India in a potential semi-final clash. He also said that it would be great to face the hosts once again in the 2023 World Cup. After beating Sri Lanka by five wickets in their final league game on Thursday in Bengaluru, New Zealand edged ever closer to the semi-final spot.
After the victory over Sri Lanka, Kane said, “Hopefully we can get a couple of days off; we'll be hanging around, not really sure what we'll do. Playing semis is special, but playing the home team will be challenging. We look forward to it if we are fortunate enough to have it.”
Williamson further added, “Really good performance. Early wickets and spins were a challenge through those middle overs. The pitch really slowed down later. The guys showed some good intent later with the chase, so great performance overall. We thought there was going to be some weather later, but there wasn't any. Hard to read such things.”
