New Zealand captain Kane Williamson resigns from his role and declines his central contract

The star batsman of the New Zealand cricket team, Kane Williamson, declined a central contract for the years 2024–25 but emphasized his long-term commitment to the Blackcaps.

On Wednesday, New Zealand cricket released a statement while confirming that the veteran batsman had been chosen to decline the central contract for the season 2024–25. The speculations were building around the future of Williamson after the New Zealand cricket team suffered a heartbreak following the early exit in the ongoing season of the T20 World Cup.

As quoted from a statement by New Zealand cricketer Williamson, “Helping push the team forward across the formats is something I’m very passionate about and something I want to keep contributing towards. However, pursuing an overseas opportunity during the New Zealand summer means I’m unable to accept a central contract offer.”

He also added, “Playing for New Zealand is something I treasure, and my desire to give back to the team remains undiminished. My life outside cricket has changed, however; spending more time with my family and enjoying experiences with them at home or abroad is something that’s even more important to me.”
