When we talk about the Fab 4 in Test cricket, one name that isn’t discussed much for consistency is Kane Williamson. The former New Zealand skipper has been beyond exceptional in the truckload of runs he has scored in the format. While the likes of Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, and Babar Azam—all part of the club—have faced Test form slumps, Williamson perhaps hasn’t.
On Sunday, in the first New Zealand vs. South Africa Test at the Bay Oval, Williamson not only brought his team out of trouble but also slammed his 30th ton. Playing in his 97th match, the Kiwi batsman is continuing his purple patch with the bat, having scored a century in the first Test against Bangladesh as well in November.
In the process of scoring yet another century, Williamson surpassed India’s Virat Kohli, who has 29 ton in 113 matches. Another important fact to note is that the Kiwi has a brilliant average of 55 in Tests, while Kohli averages close to 50.
As far as the NZ vs. SA match is concerned, Rachin Ravindra, who was in exceptional form during the World Cup, also scored his maiden Test ton. The duo bailed New Zealand out of trouble when they were struggling at 39/2 at one stage.
