New Zealand left-arm fast bowler Trent Boult became the first Kiwi bowler to claim 50 wickets in the ODI World Cup following his economical spell against the Sri Lanka cricket team on Thursday at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. The captain of Sri Lanka, Kusal Mendis, became the 50th victim in the ODI World Cup, and that too in only 28 innings. Only Mitchell Starc from Australia in 19 innings and former Sri Lanka speedster Lasith Malinga in 25 innings have managed to claim 50 wickets in fewer innings than him.
The 50th wicket by Boult also made him the sixth bowler to do so in the ODI World Cup. Former fast bowler Glenn McGrath of Australia is the leading wicket taker in the ODI World Cup, with 71 wickets to his name. He also became the third Blackcaps bowler to have more than 600 wickets in international cricket.
