Newly Appointed BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia delighted to carry forward work done by Jay Shah

Devajit Saikia has been appointed as the new Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), succeeding Jay Shah, who recently became the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Saikia was elected unopposed during a Special General Meeting on January 12, alongside Prabhtej Singh Bhatia, who was named Treasurer.

Expressing his gratitude, Saikia thanked his colleagues and acknowledged Shah’s contributions to the board. “I am extremely delighted and grateful to all my colleagues. I will carry forward the work done by ICC Chairman and former BCCI Secretary Jay Shah,” he stated.

Saikia, a former Assam cricketer, played four first-class matches as a wicketkeeper before transitioning into a successful legal career. He began practicing law at the age of 28 and has held various administrative roles in cricket, including serving as secretary of the Assam Cricket Association.

His first task as BCCI Secretary involved attending a performance review meeting regarding India’s recent Test series against Australia, where team captain Rohit Sharma and coach GautamGambhir were present. The meeting focused on India’s struggles in Test cricket and potential strategies moving forward. Saikia’s leadership comes at a critical time for Indian cricket as the team navigates challenges ahead of upcoming international fixtures.
