In a significant move, the Pakistan Cricket Board has been placed directly under the Prime Minister’s Office, shifting its governance from the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination. This marks a potential turning point in the administration of the country’s beloved sport, the Pakistan Cricket Team.
Previously, the PCB operated under the purview of the IPC, with its secretary holding a seat on the PCB’s Board of Governors.
Now, following a recent notification, the Board will answer directly to the PMO, bypassing the Ministry. This increased oversight from the highest level of government signifies a renewed focus on cricket’s development and performance.
This change coincides with the recent appointment of Mohsin Naqvi as the unopposed chairman of the PCB. Naqvi takes the helm after a period of turbulence within the governing body, including the resignation of Zaka Ashraf, the previous chairman.
