On International Women’s Day, cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar celebrated the achievements of women in various spheres, including cricket. Reflecting on India’s Test victory against England in 2008,
Sachin shared a heartwarming moment from that match where he embraced the emotions with a female ground staff member, symbolizing the nation’s resilience post-the 26/11 attacks.
Taking to X, Sachin recalled the significance of the victory amidst a challenging time for the nation and highlighted the role played by a female ground staff member in sharing that emotional moment.
Sachin wrote, “Over the years, the rise of women in sport, in India and across the world, has been very encouraging.
In 2008, in the aftermath of 11/26, India won the match against England, and it was an emotional moment for the entire nation. One of the first people with whom I was able to embrace the emotion was a female ground staff member. That moment remains very special.
Years later, in 2024, another woman, Jacintha Kalyan, became the first female pitch curator for India. She is the first among, hopefully, many more to come in the future.
This #InternationalWomensDay, let us encourage and applaud these role models who continue to break barriers and set examples in all fields.
Additionally, Sachin commended Jacintha Kalyan, who recently made history as India’s first female pitch curator.
With over 30 years of experience with the Karnataka State Cricket Association, Jacintha curated pitches during the WPL 2024 first leg in Bengaluru. Sachin emphasized the importance of celebrating trailblazers like Jacintha who break barriers and inspire future generations.
