The IPL 2025 mega auction is set to take place on November 24 and 25 at the Abady Al Johar Arena (also known as Benchmark Arena) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This will be the second consecutive year the auction is held overseas, with the 2024 edition taking place in Dubai. The auction coincides with the third and fourth days of the first Test between India and Australia in Perth.
Unlike regular auctions, the mega auction, which happens every three years, is spread over two days. It is a highly anticipated event as the ten IPL franchises build their squads for the 2025-2027 seasons. A total of 1574 players (1165 Indian and 409 overseas) have registered for the auction, including players from countries such as Italy, Canada, Netherlands, and USA, alongside major cricketing nations, excluding Pakistan. After retentions, 204 slots remain for teams to fill.
By the retention deadline of October 31, 46 players had been retained. Sunrisers Hyderabad retained Heinrich Klaasen for INR 23 crore, the highest retention, followed by Virat Kohli (RCB) and Nicholas Pooran (LSG) at INR 21 crore each. Mumbai Indians retained all their key Indian players, spending INR 75 crore. Punjab Kings have the largest remaining auction purse of INR 110.5 crore, while Rajasthan Royals have the smallest at INR 41 crore. Teams were allowed to retain up to six players, with the option to use Right-to-Match cards at the auction.
