Ben Stokes has revealed that he was always planning to reverse his decision to retire from ODI cricket and return in time for the ODI World Cup 2023 after a record-breaking performance against the New Zealand cricket team on Wednesday. He took retirement from one-day international cricket last year and even told the reporters at the end of this year's Ashes series that he had no plans to reverse his decision and return to action for the World Cup, which is going to start in India next month.
Howey Stokes was named in the preliminary squad of Team England for their World Cup defence last month. In the post-match conference, Stokes said in relation to his comments at the conclusion of the ashes that "obviously I have been asked a lot about my knee over a long period of time, so I just said that to leave it."
He further said that "I knew I'd be playing in these games and potentially in the World Cup when I said that, but it was just the easiest thing to say and put the media off the radar."
