Over retention at the IPL 2025 mega auction There is no solution yet as franchises remain at loggerheads

Later in the year, the IPL 20-25 mega auction is going to be held, and before the grand auction, the BCCI has initiated the process of finalizing the retention policy for the auction. But the problem is that the franchisees continue to be at loggerheads with each other. It can be expected that a final call will be taken when the BCCI meets with all the owners in the upcoming meeting.
According to the latest reports, every franchising company has its own demand regarding the rule of retention. Some of the franchises are in favor of it there, while others are against it. The majority of the teams have requested retention of 5-7 players, while a franchisee went on to request retention of 8 players. On the flip side, there are franchisees that don’t want to retain a single player.
Currently, there is no solution with the BCCI. However, the only positive is that the apex body has initiated the process of retention. Since the franchisees have yet to meet, discuss, and reach a common ground, the issue is far from being resolved.
IPL 2025 will be a mega auction where every team will be eyeing increasing their strength. On the flip side, the teams that have heavily invested in some of the players will be unwilling to place them in the auction. However, if the opinion of the majority of the franchisees is to be followed, then the BCCI can allow 5-7 player retentions.
