PCB Selectors to go to Kakul to convince Babar to accept Pakistan captaincy
Pakistan selectors are going all out to convince Babar Azam to accept the captaincy of the team ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024. As per reports, Azam is yet to make his decision regarding the offer from the Pakistan Cricket Board. If he accepts, Babar will replace Shaheen Afridi as Pakistan’s T20I skipper.
The report also said that the selectors will travel to Kakul in their attempt to convince the ex-skipper. Reportedly, Azam has expressed interest in leading the team across all three formats if he is named the T20I skipper.
Sources further said that those close to Azam are advising him to place all his demands in front of a vulnerable PCB. The board is most likely to announce the new skipper on Sunday.
Rizwan is being considered the alternative if Babar doesn’t accept. It is pertinent to note that Shaheen will be replaced after leading the side in just one series against New Zealand if he does so.
