Wriddhiman Saha, regarded as one of the world’s finest wicketkeepers, has announced his retirement from cricket at the age of 40. After a 17-year career, Saha revealed that the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season would be his last, and he will end his career playing for Bengal, where it all began in 2007. In a heartfelt message on social media, Saha wrote, “After a cherished journey in cricket, this season will be my last. I’m honored to represent Bengal one final time, playing only in the Ranji Trophy before I retire. Let’s make this season one to remember!”
Saha, who recently played for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2024, had been away from regular cricket, returning after a seven-month break to play against Uttar Pradesh last month. His form showed signs of rust, with a 6-ball duck and limited opportunities due to weather-affected games. Saha had left Bengal for Tripura in 2022 after a dispute with Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) joint secretary Debabrata Das, but returned to Bengal this year after Das’ departure. Feeling a deep connection with Bengal, Saha believed it was fitting to end his illustrious career by playing his final match for his home state.
