Former Pakistani captain Rashid Latif heaped praise on Mohammed Shami and claimed that the pacer was India's standout player during the 2023 World Cup. Shami gave an extraordinary performance in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, held in India. Despite missing the first four matches of the tournament, Shami made a stunning comeback, stepping in for injured all-rounder Hardik Pandya.
Latif said that Shami was India's standout player in the World Cup. He said, "You look at the way he has come up and done so well. He was, in my opinion, the standout player for India in this World Cup."
Speaking about the loss of India in the final, Latif felt that it could have been a psychological thing. The former Pakistan skipper said that the current Indian team was worthy of winning the World Cup final and also went on to praise the Australian team for their mental toughness.
Latif said, "Maybe it is just a psychological thing with the Indian players. This team was worthy of winning the World Cup final, but all credit goes to the Australians for showing once again how mentally tough and organised they are in their sports.’
