Reason why LSG captain can’t be traded before IPL 2025 mega auction

The captain of Lucknow Super Giants KL Rahul recently triggered speculations of his potential move to Royal Challengers Bengaluru for IPL 2025. Ahead of the next season while responding to a fan’s query thebatter of Karnataka batter, who was once a part of RCB, expressed his desire to return to the franchise. However, the desired move of Rahul is impossible, at least until the IPL 2025 mega auction.

According to the rules of BCCI no team is allowed to trade players before the mega auction. It is pertinent to point out that the trading window that opens before the auction is only applicable if there is a mini-auction. Given that there is a mega auction before IPL 2025, KL Rahul’s only chance of moving to RCB is if he is retained by LSG following which the team decides to go for the trade option and let him be a part of the auction.

Essentially this means that Rahul and RCB will have to wait till the mega auction in order to complete the move. As per reports, the franchises have time till November 15 to decide on the retentions.

Meanwhile, LSG still remain undecided on retaining KL Rahul for the next season. Franchise owner Sanjeev Goenka did not commit to retaining the keeper-batter while unveiling Zaheer Khan as the LSG mentor, claiming that there was still time to decide on the matter.
