Rohit Sharma clarifies Why they Don’t Want To Bring Mohammed Shami To Australia

India's Test and ODI captain Rohit Sharma shared disappointing news about pacer Mohammed Shami's status ahead of the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Test series against Australia. Speaking to the media before the first Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru, Rohit revealed that Shami is unlikely to travel to Australia for the five-match series. Despite hopes for his return, Shami has faced continuous setbacks since the 2023 ODI World Cup and remains out of action.

Rohit explained that Shami is “undercooked” due to his long absence from cricket and recent knee issues. Shami had swelling in his knee, which delayed his recovery and forced him to restart rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), where he is working with doctors and physios. Rohit stressed the importance of Shami regaining full fitness before rejoining the team and emphasized that the decision to keep him out is to ensure he doesn’t return prematurely.

“We don’t want to bring an undercooked Shami to Australia,” Rohit said. He added that Shami’s readiness is uncertain, and the focus is on a full recovery to prevent further setbacks, as he continues his rehab with the team’s medical staff.
