Rohit Sharma confirms Adelaide Test batting order for Team India

India captain Rohit Sharma confirmed that he will bat in the middle order for the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia at the Adelaide Oval, starting December 6. In a press conference, Rohit announced that KL Rahul and YashasviJaiswal would open the batting, following their impressive partnership during India’s 295-run victory in Perth.

Rohit’s decision to step back from his preferred opening position comes after KL Rahul’s strong performance, where he scored 77 runs and formed a crucial 201-run partnership with Jaiswal. “KL will open, and I will bat somewhere in the middle. It was a simple decision for the team,” Rohit stated, emphasizing that he was thrilled to watch their success while he was at home with his newborn.

Since moving to the top of the order in 2019, Rohit has opened in 42 Tests, amassing nearly 3,000 runs at an average of 44. While this marks his first middle-order appearance since December 2018, he believes it is essential for maintaining team momentum. As India aims to build on their series lead, Rohit’s experience will be vital in navigating the challenges presented by the pink ball under Adelaide’s lights.
