The RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group (RPSG Group), owners of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), has secured a 49% stake in the Manchester Originals, marking a significant entry into the English cricket scene. This acquisition follows the England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) sale of The Hundred franchises, which began on January 30. With this move, LSG becomes the second Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise to invest in The Hundred, following the Mumbai Indians’ purchase of the Oval Invincibles.
The Manchester Originals have been valued at approximately £116 million (around ₹1,251 crore). While 51% of the ownership will remain with the Lancashire Cricket Club, they have indicated a willingness to negotiate a deal for their stake. If RPSG strikes a deal for 49%, it could cost them around ₹650 crore, although this figure may increase depending on Lancashire’s willingness to sell more of their stake.
Lancashire expressed enthusiasm about partnering with RPSG, stating their shared ambition to build a competitive team for Manchester and the North West region. The investment is contingent upon successful completion of final due diligence and legal processes, with further announcements expected soon.
