Shreyas Iyer Stars with Unbeaten 97 in IPL 2025 Opener, Leading Punjab Kings to Impressive Total Against Gujarat Titans

Shreyas Iyer delivered a scintillating performance in the IPL 2025 opener, scoring an unbeaten 97 off just 42 balls for Punjab Kings against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Leading his team as captain, Iyer anchored the innings with a mix of aggression and precision, smashing five fours and nine sixes. His knock propelled Punjab Kings to a massive total of 243/5 in their 20 overs, setting a daunting target for Gujarat Titans.

Iyer’s innings was complemented by Shashank Singh’s cameo of 44 runs off 16 balls, which included five boundaries in the final over. Singh's contribution added crucial runs to the scoreboard while keeping Iyer at the non-striker’s end during the closing stages. Despite missing his maiden IPL century by just three runs, Iyer's leadership and batting prowess were evident throughout the game.

This match marked Iyer's debut for Punjab Kings after being acquired for ₹26.75 crore in the IPL auction, making him the second-most expensive player in IPL history. His form carried over from domestic cricket and the Champions Trophy, where he was India’s top scorer. Punjab Kings hope Iyer’s brilliance will lead them to their first IPL title.
