In a major relief for the Indian cricket team, Shubman Gill has not fractured his finger and is expected to return for the second Test against Australia. Gill injured his finger during a fielding drill ahead of the first Test but has only sustained a minor tissue injury, with no fracture in his thumb. According to Rev Sportz, Gill is expected to be fit in time for the IND vs AUS 2nd Test in Adelaide, which will be a day-night match. However, he is likely to miss the opening Test in Perth.
Gill was absent from India’s practice session on Tuesday, while the rest of the team trained. A source earlier told the Indian Express, “His thumb is not looking good. A scan revealed a fracture, and it will take around two weeks for him to recover. We are hopeful he will be fit for the second Test given the gap between the two matches.”
With both Rohit Sharma, who will miss the first Test for personal reasons after the birth of his second child, and Shubman Gill unavailable for the opener, captain JaspritBumrah faces a selection dilemma. Reports suggest DevduttPadikkal and DhruvJurel are likely to feature in India’s playing XI for the first Test.
