For the first time in 15 years Sri Lanka has made history by winning a Test series against New Zealand, following their triumph in the second Test at Galle. The victory came after Sri Lanka secured a 63-run win in the first Test, and they were on the verge of sealing the series with a commanding performance in the second Test.
Debutant off-spinner Nishan Peiris played a pivotal role, taking five wickets and putting New Zealand on the brink of defeat. The Black Caps struggled throughout, being bowled out for just 88 runs in their first innings and needing 179 runs to avoid an innings defeat in the second. Despite a spirited fight from their lower order, they ended the day at 335-8.
This series win marks a significant achievement for Sri Lanka, ending a long drought against New Zealand since their last series victory in 2009. The win also highlights Sri Lanka’s resurgence in Test cricket, particularly at their home ground in Galle, where New Zealand has never won a Test match.
