The legendary batsman of team India, Sunil Gavaskar, said that the absence of star all-rounder Hardik Pandya upset the balance of the team as India is going to take on New Zealand at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association stadium in Dharamshala on Sunday, October 22, in the ongoing World Cup 2023.
While speaking, Gavaskar said that the absence of Pandya will upset the balance of team India, adding that India is going to miss his batting ability at number 6. Pandya has been ruled out because of an ankle injury sustained during the New Zealand game against Bangladesh.
Gavaskar said, “Hardik Panyda's absence upsets the balance of the team. What Pandya was bringing was his batting ability at number 6 as a finisher. With the way the Indian top-order is batting, he was going to get about 8–10 overs to bat. But he was doing so well in those 10-12 overs, which is why his batting aspect will be missed.”
He further added, “But also the bowling aspect, and not to forget his fielding ability. He also brings a certain energy to the field, which we can see in the way he runs to the bowler or the captain to try and give his input.”
