It was an emotional evening in Melbourne as the star of team India, Virat Kohli, produced one of the greatest knocks in T20 cricket, pulling off what looked like an improbable run chase against Pakistan in a match of the T20 World Cup. The fans of Team India present at the Melbourne Cricket Ground were up on their feet, and even former cricketers who were at the venue for broadcasting duties were not able to believe what was unfolding as India snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.
While recalling his meeting with former head coach Ravi Shastri after the dream knock, Virat said that it was an emotional moment for his close ones too.
Kohli said it was special for Shastri to see him do what he did in the middle at the MCG, saying the former head coach has seen him go through the lean patch from close quarters.
Virat Kohli told Star Sports show ‘Believe: The Diwali Miracle’, "After that, I saw Ravi Bhai and he hugged me, and I was totally into it as it was that big a hug. And I know he was also emotional that night. Because throughout that period that I was going through whatever, he saw it from the closest quarter, from a cricketing point of view, I had a lot of conversations with him too. So he knew what was going on. And obviously, the night in itself, he would've felt a lot of emotions himself. So yeah, he just said, I'm so happy for you, and well done."
